- Who are we?

The first nucleus of members of Christ the King Secular Institute started in Milan, Italy in 1939. It was officially established in 1952 in the Diocese of Milan and was declared an Institute of Pontifical Right in 1963. The Institute celebrated its 50th anniversary in the year 1989. It is now present in various other countries too - New Zealand, India, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Poland and Venezuela. The Founder of the Institute was Professor Guiseppe Lazzati.

What is the Secular Institute – Christ the King? It is the Church a community of laymen called by the Spirit to devote themselves to the Lord in their secular condition. The members of the Institute are laymen who consecrate & bind themselves to the Lord by the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, at the service of the Church, remaining in the world so as to set these realities in accordance with the plan of God . The aim of the Institute is to help its members safeguard the gift of consecration & bring it to its fullness..

Secular Institute Christ the King. Why does the Institute have this name ? The members of the Institute wish to establish themselves, and the world, in Christ, the King of the Universe. The world and the human person cannot reach fullness & authentic realization except in Christ – the Alpha and the Omega, the King of the Universe, of history, and of all hearts. The members of the Institute, inspired by Christ the King resurrected & glorified, wish to participate in Christ’s redeeming death & wish to live and work in the world for the spread of His Kingdom.

To put their vocation into effect the members, obedient to the Spirit, undertake within the institute: to live by means of the vows as per the rules of the Institute.

  • to develop their relationship with Christ
  • to live secular realities so as to order them according to God
  • to give to their whole work the intention of charity for the total growth of Christ and
to participate in the spread of the Christian message in modes proper to the laity.
